What is a metal barn used for?
Our customers put steel barns to work as hay and feed storage, equipment sheds for tractors and implements, livestock shelters with open lean-to sides, and plain dry storage for everything that will not fit in the house. A barn can be fully enclosed, open on one or both sides, or a mix, with a tall center bay and lower side wings.
How big can a metal barn be?
Barns are built wider and taller than most garages, with center sections that can clear a loaded hay wagon or a combine header. The side wings add covered space without the cost of enclosing it. Because the frame is engineered steel, the building can be lengthened later by adding bays, so a barn can grow with the operation.
Why steel instead of a pole barn?
A traditional pole barn relies on wooden posts set in the ground, which eventually rot where they meet the soil. Galvanized steel framing does not rot or attract insects, the metal roof and walls never need painting, and the whole structure resists wind better because every piece is bolted together. Maintenance is mostly keeping the gutters and the ground around it clear.
Which barn styles and colors are available?
You choose the roof style, colors for roof, trim and walls, door sizes, window placement and whether the wings are open or closed. Red and white is the classic look, but the color chart runs from earth tones to bright colors, so a barn can match a farmhouse or stand out from it.

Metal Barns: common questions
Can I keep livestock in a metal barn?
Yes. Open-sided lean-tos give animals shade and shelter from rain, and enclosed sections can be finished inside for stalls or tack. Tell us what animals you keep so we can size the openings and clearances correctly.
Do I need a permit for an agricultural barn?
Many counties treat farm buildings differently from residential structures, and some exempt them. Check with your local building office, and let us know what they require so the paperwork matches your order.
Can a metal barn be added on to later?
In most cases, yes. Steel barns are built in bays, so extra length can be added down the road. If you think you will expand, mention it when you order so the end wall is designed for it.
