Metal Workshops With Room to Work

Need a spot to work on projects? Our workshops are strong, keep pests out, and give you a reliable space to get things done. Skyline Metal Buildings sells and installs steel workshop buildings from Sevierville, Tennessee, for homeowners, tradesmen and small businesses across 21 states.

Who buys a metal workshop?

Woodworkers and car restorers who have outgrown the garage. Mechanics, welders and contractors who need a shop with a tall door for the work truck. Small businesses that need dry, secure space for inventory and equipment without leasing a commercial unit. A workshop is a fully enclosed steel building with the doors, windows and ceiling height planned around how you will actually use it.

How is a workshop different from a garage?

Mostly in how it is laid out. A workshop is usually taller, so you can run a lift or stack materials, with roll-up doors placed for equipment and a walk-in door for people. Many customers add a lean-to along one side for covered outdoor storage and leave room inside for a bench wall. The same galvanized steel frame and panels are used, so the difference is design, not strength.

Can a metal workshop be finished inside?

Yes. Insulation, interior wall panels, electrical and lighting can all be added by your own contractors once the shell is up, and the steel frame gives you a clean structure to attach to. If you plan to heat or cool the space, tell us when you order so the building is designed with insulation in mind.

What makes steel workshops low maintenance?

No wood to rot, no siding to paint, and a roof that sheds water instead of holding it. The enclosed panels keep rodents and insects out of your tools and materials. Routine care is mostly keeping debris off the roof and checking door seals, which is a lot less than a wooden outbuilding asks for.

Metal Workshops: common questions

How tall can a metal workshop be?

Leg heights run well above a standard garage, tall enough for a vehicle lift or a loaded box truck. Tell us what needs to fit inside and we will spec the height with you.

Can I run a business out of a metal workshop?

Many customers do. Check your local zoning for home businesses or commercial use, and we will design the doors, height and layout to suit the work.

Can I add a lean-to or more bays later?

Yes. Steel workshops are built in bays and can be lengthened, and a lean-to can be added along a side wall. If you expect to expand, say so when ordering so the building is ready for it.
